‘#PrivateHireProtests’ - 11:00 AM Thursday 8th December 2016 at City Hall,The Queen's Walk, (off Tooley Street) London SE1 2AA

Following an LPHCA initiative, key Private Hire Trade Representatives will be jointly lobbying the Greater London Assembly (GLA) at City Hall, prior to and after the GLA Transport Committee is in session on Thursday 8th December 2016.

The Trade Bodies are being supported by Operators who fear for their businesses and Drivers who fear for their futures, to support the lobbying by the Trade Representatives in the form of a protest.
We will be calling for:

Any Drivers or Operators who wish to attend should arrive by 11:00 and ideally be available until 13:00 (at the latest) if possible.

You are not required to bring anything with you as our team members will be on site distributing literature including an A4 banner to hold up in solidarity.

Currently there is almost no parking near to City Hall because Tower Bridge is closed and Tooley Street is temporarily one-way, the area is currently a traffic hot spot.  We therefore recommend you bear this in mind and travel via the most efficient method.

London Bridge Main Line and Underground Stations are the best transport options, which are both around a 5-minute walk to City Hall.  As most busses are currently only travelling from the Tower Bridge area towards London Bridge, we would recommend not travelling by bus from London Bridge because of the massive diversions in place.

There is little cover outside of City Hall, so we advise everyone to be appropriately dressed for whatever the weather conditions are on the day and if rain is likely we recommend having a brolly handy.

09:00 - 09:15 Trade Reps Arrive at City Hall

09:20 Trade reps enter City Hall to present copies of our protest letter

10:00 Trade reps exit City Hall to help organise the outside protest

11:00 Protest beings – flyers distributed amongst attendees

11:20 - 11:30 Attendees are prepared for photo opportunity outside City Hall

11:30 Protest group photo opportunity

[Please then choose either ‘Option A’ or ‘Option B’ below]

11:45 ‘Option A’ - Some attendees will enter City Hall, hoping to be able to lobby the GLA Transport Committee

Once clear of security, we will (in an orderly manner) make our way to the Assembly Chamber where the GLA Transport Committee will be in session.

We will not know how many attendees can get into the City Hall Chamber, which has a capacity of 250, but generally around 5% of these seats are taken up (usually by the media & other interested parties).

Please note there cannot be any form of protest once inside City Hall. Failure to comply may result in the organisations or individuals being banned from City Hall, as well as tarnishing the reputation of the industry.

It is also unknown what time this session will finish, although we know it begins at 10:00. So if you have any time constraints, ‘Option B’ may be the best choice for you.

11:45 ‘Option B’ - Attendees (that do not wish to enter City Hall) to remain outside continuing the protest and chatting with the Media, etc.

For those who do not wish to enter the Assembly Chamber, the protest will continue outside until 12:00 at the earliest.

12:00 Earliest Protest finishing time

We kindly ask that attendees remain outside City Hall until 12:00 at the earliest. At this point the protest may come to an end and if that is the case, we kindly ask attendees to disperse in an orderly manner.

13:00 Latest Protest finishing time

If there is reason to stay beyond 12:00, the remaining attendees will carry on chatting to the Media, etc. and the very latest time the protest will finish will be 13:00.

Once again, to conform to the requirements asked of us, we kindly ask attendees to disperse in an orderly manner at this time.
