A View From The Helplines

Cathie Riley, Manager of Croner’s Employment helplines, looks at how the recent financial crisis has had an impact on Croner’s advice to businesses.

In a year, Croner’s helplines take more than 400,000 advice queries from businesses in every sector and, in recent months, we have seen a great deal of change in the types of enquiries, as employers cope with the effects of the recession. Since our helplines started back in the 1970s, it has been our aim to give practical advice, not just a legal response to a problem. In the current financial crisis, employers need our help more than ever. As times become tough they need to reduce costs, improve employee relationships and reduce the risk and unnecessary expense of employment tribunal claims.
