Aims and Objectives

The LPHCA seeks to promote and encourage Quality Minicab, Taxi, Chauffeur and Executive Car Companies in The UK to work together to provide the traveling public with a safe, reliable and high quality of service and customer care.
We seek to achieve our goals by working closely with operators, politicians, regulators and consumer associations. In addition we also seek ongoing dialogue with the traveling public and safety organisations such as The Suzy Lamplugh Trust.
Our work and campaigning led to the introduction of the PRIVATE HIRE VEHICLES (LONDON) Act 1998 by Sir George Young MP.
The PRIVATE HIRE VEHICLES (LONDON) ACT 1998 become law in July 1998 after a successful passage through the House of Lords.
The Act, which started life as a Private Members Bill, was introduced by Sir George Young and survived several concerted attempts to be defeated.
The new regulations, (for the Act), are administered by The Public Carriage Office (The PCO) on behalf of Transport for London TfL. (The PCO already administer regulations for London Taxis).
The LPHCA broadly welcomed the Act as an imaginative piece of legislation by which those who run minicab, executive and chauffeur services can be properly regulated and controlled in London.
