Christmas Shutdown Advice
Many workplaces choose to close down for the Christmas break, with bosses and employees quite rightly spending the time trying to relax and enjoy the benefits of the season. Owners of business premises should try to ensure that their premises are safe before the big Christmas shutdown, something that may be overlooked by staff in the scramble for the door on the last day of business.
Making the Premises Safe
1. Turn off gas, electricity and water services
wherever possible and if safe to do so. If electricity
must be retained then ensure that electrical
equipment is properly isolated. Fairy lights should
definitely be disconnected from the mains supply.
2. Do a quick safety tour around the premises in the days leading up to the shutdown, looking for obvious hazards. As no employees will be on site, remember that there may be increased risk of trespassers. This is especially relevant to premises that are located close to housing estates or remote industrial units which can often be the haunt of skateboarding teens.
