Holiday Entitlement

Survey reveals nearly a quarter of workers could be missing out on leave. Twenty one per cent of UK full-time workers are not getting the full statutory minimum holiday entitlement, putting employers at risk of potential claims.

In a recent survey commissioned by Croner*, nearly a quarter of full-time workers said that they were entitled to less than 27 days’ holiday per year including bank holidays. Six per cent of the full-time workers polled in March 2009 were being given less than the 24 days’ statutory minimum holiday entitlement in force at that time, which includes bank holidays. As the statutory minimum holiday entitlement increased on 1 April to 28 days for a full-time, five-day-a-week worker, it is likely that there are many employers who are not meeting their legal obligations, if they do not increase that entitlement.
