Redundancies Decrease while Pay Increases
Employers’ Helpline Services see decline in redundancy calls
Every month in Solutions we publish the top three call topics received by our Employers’ Helpline Services. Redundancy has been a main topic since 2007, but our figures show that there has been a steady decline in the number of calls received regarding redundancy since a peak at the beginning of the year.
Of the
calls received by Croner’s Helpline Services in July, 13.5% were redundancyrelated,
down from a high of 23% in January, and only slightly more than the
13% received at the same time last year. The data shows a gradual increase in
redundancy-related calls during 2008, reaching a peak in December 2008 and
January 2009. Since then, there has been a steady decline.
While official figures show that the unemployment figures continue to rise,
the information from our helpline services may be a positive indicator that the
number of redundancies is starting to level out. In the past, we have been able to
identify some new trends from the types of calls made to our helplines, because
we deal with many clients from different business sectors.
