Summertime and questions on Holiday Entitlement
Two common queries currently received by our Helplines are on paying employees in lieu of holiday and whether it is possible for employees to carry over holiday from one year to the next.
There have been two recent increases to the
statutory minimum holiday entitlement under the
Working Time Regulations 1998. The first increase
was from 4 weeks to 4.8 weeks’ leave on 1 October
2007 and the second increase was to 5.6 weeks’
leave on 1 April 2009. For the worker who works a
five-day week, this means an overall increase from
20 days to 28 days per year.
