For Taxi & Private Hire Vehicle Operators (Minicab & Chauffeur) that take pre-bookings
The LPHCA’s primary role is that of a trade body that passionately represents (in conjunction with our Membership) the interests of Licensed Taxi & Private Hire Vehicle Operators (Minicab & Chauffeur) that take pre-bookings. Indirectly we represent our Members Driver’s interests although we do not have a driver membership.
At the present time we have around 15,000 drivers attached to the LPHCA Membership and we plan to increase that considerably and to utilise it to benefit Members and the Travelling Public.

PROMOTING SAFE TRAVEL
Via Taxi & Private Hire Vehicles
The LPHCA’s commitment to safe travel via Taxi & Private Hire Vehicles is absolute. The Association successfully campaigned for Licensing throughout the United Kingdom, which came into force after a campaign alongside the Suzy Lamplugh Trust that culminated in the 1998 Private Hire Vehicles (London) Act that completed Licensing in the UK.
LPHCA Chairman Steve Wright MBE has worked with the Mayor of London’s Safer Travel at Night (STAN) Teams under both Mayor’s Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson since 2000. Steve has been re-appointed by current Mayor Boris Johnson for a second 4-year term as his Private Hire Industry Representative on the Transport for London (TfL) Board.
Steve continues his safety work with the Safer Travel at Night Team, the Suzy Lamplugh Trust and the Victim Support Organisation as well as the Home Office, the Police and the Department for Transport on a National basis.

The benchmarking of standards for Taxi & Private Hire Vehicle Operators via our Independent Grading System
The LPHCA, prior to the Total Licensing of the Taxi & Private Hire Vehicle Industry in the UK, developed an Independent Grading System that has been utilised for over 20 years by the Travelling Public and work providers as a benchmark for standards in the Industry.
The process produces a 6-page assessment and ‘Star Rating’ of LPHCA’s Taxi & Private Hire Vehicle Member Operators who are certificated and then listed by us.
These listings have been utilised by the Travelling Public and many Corporate Entities as a good guide to a company’s competence and the services that they can provide. The LPHCA Grading System has also been used to assist and determine the winners of procurement bids.
To see further details about the LPHCA Grading System and how it can help you to choose your Taxi & Private Hire Operators, whether you are a Member of the Travelling Public or a Corporate Entity looking for a supplier please Click Here.
TRAVELLING PUBLIC ASSISTANCE
Guidance on booking a Minicab, Chauffeur or Taxi with advice before, during and after travelling
The LPHCA’s message is that ‘Pre-Booked’ Minicabs, Chauffeurs & Taxis are inherently extremely safe, especially from Operators that have been Independently Graded and Visited by us. All pre-booked Private Hire Vehicle journeys are recorded under law at a Licensed Operating Centre.

For Commercial & Public Work Suppliers seeking reliable Taxi & Private Hire Vehicle service providers
The LPHCA has for many years worked with and advised Corporates and Major Work Providers on how to interface with the Taxi and Private Hire Industry. In 2012 for example we advised a large television company, sports organisation and other considerable bodies on how to secure the best Taxi & Private Hire Vehicle service levels.
We have also successfully assisted with the identification of Taxi & Private Hire supply via procurement assistance and other services for Local Authorities.
As well as working closely with the Olympic Delivery Authority and Transport for London on the delivery of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we assisted the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to secure extra transport provision in support of the games.
